bimbo is a Static Site Generator created in early 2025 for my personal use (to create windfuck.ing)

coming back to it nearly a year later, i had forgotten most of the intricacies of using it.

this new iteration is built for extreme ease of use, both for new users and for future me, who will probably need to update her website in a year and not want to spend another month remembering how to do so.

no AI/LLMs were used to make this tool. all code was written (poorly) by me or contributors and that's the way i like it

the source code is currently hosted on GitHub, which is owned by Microsoft. i hope to eventually move to a more ethical alternative (like Codeberg), but rebuilding all my build pipelines and such will require a lot of effort so please be patient with me

basic features

• build websites with HTML/CSS/JS - bimbo includes some basic project starters for blogs and portfolio sites.
• build websites faster with HTML templates - bimbo supports Handlebars templating language, allowing you to keep your code and content separate. update Markdown and JSON/YAML/etc data files to modify your site's contents without giving the HTML a second thought
• live preview - bimbo watches your project files for changes and automatically rebuilds your static site. everything happens locally so there's little to no delay
• multi-project switching - easily jump between different website projects with a single click
• simple tray icon menu - upon running the bimbo executable, a sparkling heart icon will appear in your system tray. all functionality is available from a context menu

premium features

• one-click deploy - when your site is ready to go live, just press a button to upload to your favorite webhost. currently includes built-in support for Neocities and Nekoweb, as well as other providers via SFTP
  
• Bluesky integration - auto-post to Bluesky when you write a new blog (or any page). display replies to your Bluesky posts as "comments" on your blog
• and more?? - i have SO many cool ideas that i hope to add eventually, but i also need money to support myself and my family. maybe buy bimbo+ so i can do that and still justify spending all this development time on it?
