channel surfing
every year, the NYU Game Center hosts an event called No Quarter, in which they invite four creatives to make games for a one night only event. i was honored to be a part of the 2024 event, during which i debuted Dreamscape Explorer, a Zelda-like adventure game that takes place in a fictional 90s web browser.
in order to progress through the game (which was made in Godot and displayed on a projector), players needed to explore the physical venue and find hidden QR codes that would open one of over 20 “dreams” (mini-games made in Twine, Bitsy, Puzzlescript, and Downpour). Interacting with a dream would impact the main game in ways that were sometimes very clear (e.g. opening a locked door) but often times somewhat mysterious. as you might imagine, there’s not really a good way to release Dreamscape Explorer in its entirety online, so for now i’m just publishing one tiny part.
channel surfing is one of the dreams i created using Bitsy and is one of the more substantial ones, so i thought it would be a good standalone release (at least better than the one where you step in dog shit and the game immediately ends). i hope u enjoy.
